I recently received the most beautiful email from a former client, who simply wanted to
update me on her healing journey. She has given me permission to share this with
others. I hope it inspires others to try therapy and change patterns that no longer serve
you. ~Tasha:
“Hope you are well. The last time we spoke you asked me to find natural example of
growth to reflect my goals. While I took a lot of mental pictures, I think what resonated
with me the most was not a flower or tree but the ocean. I found that the ocean had so
many different moods; some days it was very calm other days having large waves. I
found myself in the ocean, understanding that even in nature, our “tempers” can
change, and that not everyday looks exactly the same. It’s taught me to be more patient
with my feelings and to express my feelings no matter what they are; nature sure does!
Today I was reminded to reach out to you as Saturday was Community Legal Aid
volunteer registration and today was club day. It was so hard seeing all my peers
passively put each other down for what the “best” club would look like on a resume and
no one seemed to understand when I said “I am not signing up for any clubs.” I don’t
owe anyone here an explanation of why I can’t participate this year in committed roles in
clubs, but I am so beyond proud of myself for holding myself back and unnecessarily
adding extra circulars to my plate. I thus (so far) have completed my only goal in coming
to Law School this year. So now, I can just sit with my cases and readings and fully
immerse myself, not worrying if I have other obligations to get done.
This summer was probably the best summer ever! I found I was able to finally feel like
me again, but, I do sit and mourn how lovely it was to just focus on myself. It is a bit
harder to do that now that school is so intense but I really want to hold onto the good
habits I have established and push myself to do the hard activity instead of isolating
myself at home. I started a journal not too long after we last called and found it helpful to
put my emotions physically down as if I was removing them from my brain. My poor little
cat passed away a couple weeks into the summer and I find she as a good outlet to
write to and that comforts me.
I get overwhelmed by nostalgia right now as I miss my family, friends, and job, but am
trying to hold space for all the exciting memories that will come.
